Legislative

The purpose of the local chapters Government Affairs Committee is to implement the States “CAMB Grassroots Lobbying Program”. This is done by contacting and establishing relationships with local legislators. This mobilization at the local level contributes to CAMBs statewide  and nationwide success in influencing policy makers and ultimately moving legislative and regulatory decisions in our favor.

Currently, the biggest issue is HR 3915:  Following is the latest update from NAMB on this issue:

On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, the House Financial Services Committee ("HFSC") debated, marked-up, and voted 45-19 to approve the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2007 ("HR 3915").  This vote clears the way for HR 3915 to move to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for further debate and a vote of the full House, which is expected to occur as early as next week. Changes are still being made to H.R. 3915 and NAMB continues to work closely with Chairman Frank and Committee staff on addressing our concerns and making improvements to the bill.

NEXT STEPS

  1. Update:  To keep NAMB Members informed of these efforts, and provide direction regarding the next steps, NAMB will hold a national webcast update, registration required, on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM EST.   Registration Link:

  2. Email:  On Monday, November 12th, you will receive an e-mail that provides an update, NAMB’s final position on this bill following sensitive negotiations this week, and a link to the appropriate call to action letter and talking points.  Please, DO NOT ACT until you receive the email on Monday from NAMB Government Affairs.

We know that you are eager to protect your industry and we appreciate your efforts earlier this week (over 7000 letters were sent on Tuesday before the Committee mark-up).  However, we are still in negotiations regarding H.R. 3915 and it is extremely important that you wait until Monday, November 12th for instructions from NAMB before you act.

It is a critical time and we appreciate your patience and support.
